Texas businesses support freedom of all Texans to marry under the U.S. Constitution

In a show of unity consistent with the Texas business community’s decades-long leadership on inclusion of LGBT employees and customers, Texas businesses are celebrating the recent Supreme Court ruling that makes same-sex marriage the law of the land.

“The Supreme Court’s decision was a win for same-sex families all over the country. For us, it was also a win for our corporate culture, which encourages everyone to bring their full and best selves to work every day. We hope to see all Texas citizens enjoying their Constitutional right to get married,” said Duff Stewart, CEO of GSD&M.

“My company’s ambition is to make content that entertains the entire world,” said Randy Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software, an award-winning and best-selling video game developer based in Frisco, Texas. “I believe that in order to achieve our ambition, the talent at my company must be diverse and inclusive enough to represent and understand the audience it hopes to entertain. We want Texas to be known for being equally welcoming of all families, regardless of what a family may look like, so that we can remain in Texas and remain competitive for top talent regardless of their sexual identity or orientation. The sooner all of Texas can embrace and celebrate the decision of the Supreme Court, the sooner Texas can achieve this important and critical goal of being equally welcoming of all families.”

Support from the business community for inclusion of the LGBT community, and for a more inclusive Texas state brand, is not new. A number of Texas-headquartered corporations were signers to the Employers’ Amicus brief to the Supreme Court in favor of same-sex marriage. And more than 370 businesses have signed the general Texas Competes pledge, up from 100 at the pledge’s launch in April, which makes the economic argument for Texas to become welcoming to LGBT workers, families, and customers.
