The saying goes, “Honesty is the best policy.” We decided to put that old adage to the test in front of 100 million people. It started with eight words—“The ’80s called. They want their store back.” It ended with national headlines, celebrity tweets, segments on The Today Show and Good Morning America, a USA Today Admeter Top-Five finish and a slew of industry awards including a Cannes Lion.

Immediately following the Super Bowl commercial, we launched an ’80s giveaway on Twitter and Instagram where fans could win all the nostalgic ’80s things RadioShack no longer needed—a Michael Jackson jacket, a Pac-Man videogame table, even a 1984 Porsche. Not only did we dominate the Super Bowl conversation, this giveaway made RadioShack one of the most talked about brands for days following the game.
