The Future of Mobile

I was excited to attend this panel to hear about all the exciting upcoming mobile initiatives, and although I did hear about interesting things such as M-Pesa, a mobile-phone based money transfer service for Vodafone and a  software like Nokia Life Tools that has been designed as an agriculture tool that delivers farmers with precise commodity prices from a network of 291 local mandis (marketyards), what I really heard from this panel is something that is not about the future of mobile but instead what mobile is about now.

Mobile is a lifestyle and is all about people and the fact that people are mobile. My favorite quote from this panel was “Mobile is an adjective that describes people, not a noun describing the phone in their hand”.  To me this quote really sums up the way we need to be thinking about mobile as we build mobile tools for our clients.
